Recent Buy

On Tuesday July 21, 2015 I purchased 7 shares of Walmart (WMT) for $72.86. The stock started to rise at the end of the day and I decided to just go ahead and add it to my portfolio. With a 0.49/share quarterly dividend that should add $13.72 to my annual dividend totals not counting reinvestments. The company has 2 consecutive years of only a penny raise in the dividend and a payout ratio that seems to be reasonably. Over the long term the company can raise dividends and perform well at the same time in my opinion.

What do you think about WMT here?

  1. I like the WMT idea but my capital is going in other directions currently. The purchase should definitely pay off in the long run though! Perhaps one day I will venture into the Walmart arena, but if I was to buy a retailer, it would be TGT to offset all the money my wife spends there! haha

    1. American Dividend Dream,

Walmart should be a pretty stable investment. I kind of liked Traget's dividend growth much more too, but it cost more too now.

I was trying to buy it during the credit card breach when it hit the $50's if I remember correctly. I lost out on that opportunity. I would like to eventually own a piece of them too.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. WMT should stay in business for a very long time!

    1. JKuretich,

Not a bad company and initial buy. Should be a relatively safe and growing dividend.

  3. I know many have been buying WMT in recent weeks as the price has come down a bit. Personally, I'm not a fan of the retailers. I know TGT is quite popular too but the closest thing I have to retail would be GWW. Still, nice pick up , great yield and better value these days.

    1. DivHut,

I have wanted to add Target and Walmart for a long time. I think the companies are pretty safe dividend plays. Both have a pretty good amount of repeat customers that need to shop around for everyday items for reasonable prices.

Depending how long you have had GWW they have done very well for you
