  1. If you do not get an employer match why do you contribute into the plan? Wouldn't the increased flexibility of an IRA be better as you still get the same tax benefits but aren't stuck with their funds.

    1. I like to diversify accounts I guess and some of the funds I own have performed very well for me. I agree more flexibility is good, but then again there is a limit of $5K a year in IRA's which I never hit. I do have a ROTH IRA account and a traditional; and ROTH version of my 403(b). I am hopeful one day will get a match but not sure if it will come in the future. I can always keep it in there or decide to roll the retirement accounts over down the road if I have to. The reason I am building up a cash reserves is also because it has a BrokerageLink account within the plan that gives me thousands of more fund choices.

So far this year my contributions have neglected the ROTH IRA in favor for the 403(b) accounts and taxable account for some reason. Too many accounts to try and fund a little and not enough capital I guess. I have always preferred stocks for the dividends especially over funds and less fees. Thank you for the questions and suggestion.
