January 2015 Dividend Update and Goals

It is that time to report on the dividends received over the last month. The last couple years were exciting as we watched more dividend investors take the journey towards focusing on passive income. I personally look forward to many more years of great dividends. I accomplished the goal of paying my car off early and made some progress towards my BBA degree over the last year or so. I did not reach my goal of $2700 in dividends mainly because I could not afford to put too much capital to work and taking on school related debt. I will set the 2015 dividend goal of $2800. I would be really happy to hit $3K this year, but depending how things happen $2800 is a challenge as well. I decided to cut my hours at work nearly in half during the year last year. Another goal is to finish my Bachelor's degree by this year in December if possible.

  1. Great start to the year SWAN! With months like that, $3000 might be within reach if the dividends are reinvested and there are some dividend increases thrown in there. Good luck with school

    1. ADD,

Thank you! I reinvest all my dividends in the same companies paying them. That should help build some growth as long as they are safe for the most part with earnings. It is nice to have see the dividends come in while doing the routine of work and school.

Thank you for the kind words!

It is nice to throw in a bunch of monthly payers to the mix. Looks like you had a great 2014 and looking forward to another awesome 2015. 3. You have a lot of great goals this year (and last year) so no wonder that some might be hard to reach. No matter what happens, you're making progress which is the best start you could have! I agree that you should reinvest some of your dividends to grow your dividend income faster. :-)

    1. DivGuy,

Good to see you. I think I visited your blog quite a few times over the last few years here and there. It's always good to challenge yourself, but nice to make it achievable too. I do reinvest the dividends into all the same securities pretty much on all positions. I like the strategy even though I admit at times I see the selective reinvests point on price vs value.

Best wishes for a successful 2015 and beyond to you!

  4. Not too many names in common with my portfolio for the month of January which I'll be reporting soon but a solid start to the year. Depending on your fresh capital invested I can see you hitting your goal in 2015. I was looking at UTG a while back and even considered it for my portfolio along with DNP. On the surface these look like solid funds invested in solid names but I have not pulled the trigger on either. I'm still 100% stocks, no MLPs, REITs, ETFs, etc. for now... Thanks for sharing.

    1. DivHut,

That's not such a bad thing. There are many more companies that are reliable payers out there. UTG has been great for me so far raising the payout every once in awhile. Don't have a ton of shares though either. If you do add some of those categories in the future it will be interesting to see who you go with.

      Thanks for stopping by!

    1. DividendsForDummies,

Thank you! I have a few that I have held onto that are higher yield and some risks, but overall been happy. I can think of some people who need the title of your blogs services. Particularly those who doubt dividends and investing altogether thinking you have to work until you are 80 or so.

      Thanks for visiting!
